Chicken Parm, Minus the Whole ProductionThere are nights when chicken parmesan sounds wonderful, but breading chicken, frying it, boiling pasta, and washing every pan in the kitchen sounds like somebody else's problem. That is where this Chicken Parm Garlic Toast comes in. We are taking the parts people actually get excited about, crispy chicken, tomato sauce, creamy sauce, melted cheese, and garlicky bread, and stacking them into one easy baking dish. This is not the traditional version your Italian grandmother may have made, and I am not going to stand here and pretend it is. It is a shortcut dinner built for school nights, tired nights, and those evenings when everybody is hungry right now. Frozen chicken patties and frozen garlic toast do the heavy lifting. Two jars of sauce keep everything moist and flavorful. Mozzarella handles the bubbly, cheesy finish. That is a pretty good return for opening a few packages.Cook the Shortcut Pieces FirstThe chicken patties and garlic toast need to be cooked before they go into the casserole. Use the oven, an air fryer, or whatever method makes the most sense in your kitchen. Follow the package directions and get the chicken fully cooked and the toast nicely browned. We want that bread crisp and toasty at the beginning because it is about to meet a whole lot of sauce.I use eight patties and eight slices of garlic toast, which fits neatly in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. That gives you a simple one-piece-per-person setup with no guessing when it is time to serve. If your patties or toast are shaped a little differently, arrange them so the dish is covered as evenly as possible. It does not need to look like architectural drafting. Dinner will survive. The Sauce-on-Sauce SituationStart with about half of the Alfredo sauce in the bottom of the dish. You only need enough to coat it. Lay the cooked garlic toast over that creamy layer, then drizzle the rest of the Alfredo across the tops. This sounds like a lot of richness because it is. The Alfredo settles into the toast while the edges keep some of their browned, buttery texture.Next comes one chicken patty on each slice of toast. Pour the pizza sauce over the chicken, then cover the whole thing with shredded mozzarella. I use about half of an 8-ounce bag, but you can use the whole bag when the spirit moves you. I am not the one coming over to your house and eating this. Use the cheese you like and the amount that makes your people happy.Build It, Bake It, Feed Everybody The assembled casserole goes into a 350°F oven, uncovered, for about 15 minutes. Everything is already cooked, so this bake is about bringing the layers together. You are looking for sauce bubbling around the edges, cheese melted across the top, and a hot center. Mine browned nicely without the broiler, so keep an eye on it before adding another step you may not need. The finished dish lands somewhere between chicken parmesan, cheesy garlic bread, and the kind of comforting casserole that gets people to the table without a second invitation. The toast softens underneath as it absorbs the Alfredo, but it still brings that buttery garlic flavor to every bite. The chicken stays hearty enough to make this feel like supper instead of a snack, and the pizza sauce cuts through the creamy layer with a little tomato tang.A Dinner That Knows the AssignmentServe this Chicken Parm Garlic Toast hot from the baking dish with a simple salad or a green vegetable when you want something fresh beside it. It is also perfectly capable of standing alone on a busy night. Feeding hungry people matters more than proving you can make every ingredient from scratch. Use the shortcuts, put the casserole on the table, and enjoy the fact that everybody got dinner. For more easy meals made for real-life kitchens, join my weekly newsletter Meet You in Your Inbox! Notes
The chicken patties and garlic toast must be cooked before the casserole is assembled. The final bake is only for heating the layers together and melting the cheese.
Use the brands and cooking method that work best in your kitchen. An oven or air fryer both work when they match the package directions.
The mozzarella is flexible. Matthew uses about half of an 8-ounce bag and notes that the whole bag is fair game.
The garlic toast softens as it absorbs the Alfredo sauce, so this dish has the best mix of crisp edges and saucy bread when served right away.
